Things to Do in Hartford, CT

Hartford is a great city with loads of attractions and fun things to do for locals and visitors of all ages. Whether you’re a culture vulture, a baseball fan, or a history buff, there’s something for everyone to enjoy in the beautiful capital city of Connecticut. Here at Liberty Honda we’ve put together a list of some of our favorite things to do in Hartford.

The Mark Twain House & Museum

The home of the legendary American author Samuel Clemens (a.k.a., Mark Twain), and where from 1874 to 1891 he wrote some of his most famous works, including The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court. Visitors can tour the 25-room house and learn more about Twain in the Webster Bank Museum Center. Grab a bite to eat at the Nook Farm Cafe on the second floor of the Visitor’s Center, and don’t forget to stop by the Mark Twain Store.

Bushnell Park

An oasis in the center of the city, Bushnell Park was the very first public park in America to be financed with public funds. There’s a lot to see and do, but the most popular attraction has to be the vintage 1914 carousel, with its 48 hand-carved wooden horses circling a Wurlitzer band organ. You can also stroll through the lovely grounds around the pond, take the Tree Walk to view the 150 varieties of trees, visit the Spanish American War Memorial, or take in a concert at the Performance Pavilion.

Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art

Featuring over 50,000 works of art, from ancient to modern, the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art was the first public art museum in the U.S. and first opened its doors in 1844. The collection includes European and American art, costume and textiles exhibits, American and European decorative art, and contemporary art. The Untitled Bistro serves lunch and libations, and the Museum Shop offers souvenirs, handcrafted jewelry, books, and posters.

Hartford Stage

Presenting live theater, from classic revivals to the hottest new plays and musicals, Hartford Stage is one of the leading theaters in the country, and won a Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre in 1989. Along with their exciting and always entertaining performances, they also offer educational programs, including student matinees and theatre classes for both students and adults.

Dunkin’ Donuts Park

Home to the Yard Goats minor league baseball team, the Double-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, Dunkin’ Donuts Park is an intimate place to take in a game. In addition to baseball, the park also plays host to a wide variety of events and concerts all year round. And yes, the concession stands offer all of your ballpark favorites along with wild specialties like the BLTDD, which is bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwiched between two glazed Dunkin’ doughnuts.
